The Assessment and Taxation branch is seeking a natural leader with an eye for detail who can oversee the Tax Exemptions team as they manage complex property tax exemption programs and legislation. Your excellent communication skills and dedication to providing excellent customer service will guide your success as you and your team navigate the complexities of implementing new and emerging legislation while maintaining a high standard of customer care.
In this politically sensitive role, you will be dealing with a wide variety of customers and stakeholders ranging from non-profit organizations to higher levels of government. Your research, reports and judgement will assist City Administration and council in their decision making.
What will you do:
Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week.
Salary Range: $ 50.108 - $ 63.318 (Hourly); $ 88,277.77 - $ 111,550.49 (Annually)

In this politically sensitive role, you will be dealing with a wide variety of customers and stakeholders ranging from non-profit organizations to higher levels of government. Your research, reports and judgement will assist City Administration and council in their decision making.
What will you do:
- Ensuring compliance with evolving legislation and regulations
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including school boards, religious and charitable organizations and all levels of government
- Preparing and presenting complex information in an understandable form to all stakeholders
- Conducting surveys of other assessment and taxation jurisdictions to identify industry norms to guide decision making
- Prepare reports for management and Council including research and recommendations
- Review existing exemptions processes in an ongoing fashion and update as necessary
- Supervising, coaching, mentoring, leading and training a team of professional level staff
- Delegate work, provide ongoing performance feedback, and mentoring employee growth
- Provide guidance to the team through technical expertise
- Coordinate and support Tribunal appearances
- A University Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Commerce or Arts with a related Major (i.e. Political Science, Communications, English, Management). A Master’s Degree is considered an asset
- 4 years progressively responsible experience in a collaborative role with a focus on communication, collaboration, report writing, public speaking and public administration
- 2 years of supervisory experience including work planning, coaching, mentorship, leading, performance evaluation, performance management and training of staff
- Ability to perform in a time and politically sensitive environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of Assessment & Taxation processes and the Legislative framework that governs them
- Demonstrated knowledge of change management best practices
- Demonstrated ability to review and create policy/procedures as dictated by changing legislation or changing Branch needs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
- Demonstrated ability to present to or facilitate meetings with stakeholder groups
- Ability to create and utilize presentation materials using multimedia platforms
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality is required
- Proficiency in the applications of CRM, Google Applications

- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
