Position Details As a Student Loan Advisor, you will help guide and support students to navigate various financial tools (government student loans, awards, other resources) and assist in the resolution of funding challenges, in order that they may realize their scholastic dreams. This essential position within Student Enrolment & Registrar Services at the University of Lethbridge will commence work as soon as possible. This is a full-time, temporary position.

Reporting to the Manager of the Scholarships and Student Finance team, you will advise and support prospective, current, and graduated students on the governmental loan process including application, confirmation, and repayment. To do so, you will liaise with government agencies and personnel, and various University departments as it relates to the approval/rejection of approximately 5000 government student loan requests per academic year. There is a strong technical aspect to this job as you will navigate the online loan portals for 10 provinces and 3 territories, as well as several internal systems (Banner and Blackbaud Awards Management); precision data entry skills and a strong proficiency with excel and email communications (including mail merges) are required.

As Loans Advisor, you are a resource person to students, parents, staff, Government funding agencies and financial institutions. You will exercise independent judgment and decision-making, while adhering to and having extensive knowledge of current University and government policies and regulations. You will frequently demonstrate your ability to analyze and problem-solve with students on options to optimize access to student loan programs and government funding. You will have regular opportunities to exhibit your strong research skills (gathering & analyzing relevant information) and attention to detail in order to assess and assist with complex cases.

Additionally, you will participate in campus and community events to provide information on loan and awards programs and support financial literacy programming related to loan applications, loan repayment programs, budgeting, etc
Position Qualifications The successful candidate will have:
  • An undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, Management or a related area.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience related to student loan advising, government benefit services, or financial services.
  • Experience working in an office environment is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a high level of computer proficiency.
  • An overall knowledge of personal finance options (credit, government student aid, loans, budgeting, RESPs) are required. Analytical and critical thinking skills are a necessity.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills with the ability to establish positive relationships with students and colleagues at all organizational levels is a requirement.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $4,576.00 - $5,114.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $4,576.00 - $5,652.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 9)
