St. Albert Public Schools is currently seeking applications for a Part-Time, Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Contractor to work with Preschool.


The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) works to promote the success of all students with communication disabilities/delays. The SLP is expected to work in conjunction with staff, parents, caregivers, other consultants, and preschool personnel to assist in students achieving their therapeutic goals, and/or to counsel and educate about the student's disorders and their management


Specific Needs/Requirements for this position:

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessment, diagnosis, reporting and treatment of:
  • Language (morphology, syntax, semantics and phonological awareness)
  • Cognitive aspects of communication (including communication disability and other functional disabilities associated with cognitive impairment)
  • Social pragmatic aspects of communication
  • Speech sound delays and disorders (articulation, phonology, motor speech, fluency and voice)
  • Provide ongoing coaching, monitoring, and collaboration with school teams (teachers, other support personnel, parents, EAs, other therapists) to support student's programming and intervention goals
  • Provides ongoing education to school staff and families in all areas of speech, language, and communication development and disorders.
  • Provide supervision to various support personnel (e.g., speech-language assistants, educational assistants, practicum students).
  • Provide documentation and accountability records as required (e.g., assessment reports, consult notes, treatment summaries)
  • Maintain files for all clients.
  • Work directly with students individually, in a small group, and/or as a whole class to target therapeutic goals, or prevention and promotion.
  • Collaborate on providing functional goals and feedback for Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Refer to other medical or external agencies as appropriate, for the assessment, prevention, or rehabilitation of speech and/or language impairments.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings for classroom based and individual support.
  • Attend staff meetings, and other meetings, as required.
  • Select, plan and coordinate appropriate service delivery and scheduling options.
  • Provide materials to support programming.
  • Must maintain good standing with Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent) from an accredited university
  • Must be registered for membership with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
  • Minimum of one year experience with the preschool age
  • Must agree to respect the confidentiality and personal integrity of students, parents, teachers and staff
  • Must have a valid driver's license and own a reliable vehicle
  • Must abide by the duties and responsibilities outlined in the Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) Canon of Ethics
