Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the dealership’s financial and accounting operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all processes. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and works closely with the management teams to provide financial insight and guidance. The Controller also supports the President in advancing business initiatives, contributing to strategic decision-making, and ensuring the dealerships’ overall financial health.


Key Responsibilities


  • Oversee and manage the dealership’s financial and accounting systems, staff, and daily operations.
  • Performs tasks to ensure that financial functions are reconciled monthly, including, but not limited to cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payable, manufacturer statements, vehicle deal commissioning, intercompany accounts, and payroll accounts.
  • Meet internal and external deadlines on monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets, forecasts, reporting, and analysis.
  • Collaborate on year-end financial statements.
  • Oversee payroll and collaborate with the Payroll Manager to ensure compliance and implementation of best practices.
  • Partner with the senior leadership on forecasting, budgeting, and operational planning.
  • Support department managers to review business performance and develop action plans to increase profitability.
  • Complete financial analysis on individual dealerships/operations and present to the executive team.
  • Review and maintain dealership contracts and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure financial and accounting practices are compliant and aligned with internal policies and procedures.
  • Coach, mentor, and train and cross-train accounting associates to support professional growth and team effectiveness.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in accounting or financial oversight.
  • Automotive dealership accounting/controller experience strongly preferred (3–5 years).
  • CPA designation or candidacy is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of PBS or other Dealer Management System.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing and Payworks software is an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical ability with a detail-oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful approach.
  • Demonstrated diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license; willingness to travel within the Lower Mainland as needed.


Logistical Requirements: 

This is a full-time position at Dueck Auto Group with the head office located at 400 SE Marine Drive. The position may require working extended hours, including weekends, in order to meet deadlines based on the needs of the business. Professional attire is required (business casual dress code).
