Database Administrator:

On behalf of our financial services client, Procom is searching for a Database Administrator for a permanent role. This position is a remote position with a preference for candidates located in Alberta.


Database Administrator - Job Description:

The Database Administrator will be part of the Data and Infrastructure Department, focusing on providing enterprise-wide technical support for databases. This role involves maintaining database integrity, security, and performance, as well as integrating with external databases. The DBA will lead problem resolution, manage projects, and mentor junior staff.


Database Administrator - Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the availability of all database servers in production and lower environments.
  • Manage database backup and recovery functions, including disaster recovery tests.
  • Lead project teams for DBMS installations and updates.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Develop and maintain database management documentation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess database change impacts.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance and availability.
  • Provide on-call support and address database outages and performance issues.
  • Tune SQL statements and manage database integration issues.
  • Participate in defining Servus' Azure SQL IaaS / PaaS support model.


Database Administrator - Mandatory Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2022, 2019, 2017, 2016).
  • Proficient in performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration, Analysis, and Reporting Services.
  • Strong experience in multi-remote-user database environments.
  • Scripting and automation skills, including T-SQL and PowerShell.
  • Understanding of data security and integrity methods.
  • Technical writing skills with standard diagramming techniques.


Database Administrator – Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with Azure Cloud Database Management.
  • Familiarity with Schema Migration tools like DBUp and Flyway.
  • Awareness of DevOps and Agile methodologies.
  • Understanding of credit union financial systems.
  • Knowledge of credit union products and services.
