The Opportunity:
Our Nuclear subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients in the nuclear industry. Our team offers a wide range of services, including technical and feasibility studies, project management, detailed design, procurement, site management, quality surveillance, commissioning and asset management. This division is operating at an exciting time as nuclear power and new technology solutions are developing globally, with Canada as a leader in nuclear refurbishments, nuclear new builds, incredible capital projects portfolios and a deep history in nuclear supply chain.
WSP is currently seeking an experienced Fire Protection Systems Engineer to join one of our Ontario offices. Several projects will potentially require travel to Tiverton, Ontario, Toronto Ontario, Saint John, New Brunswick, Pickering and Oshawa, Ontario.
As a highly motivated Fire Protection Systems Engineer, you will be the go-to subject matter expert with the ability to lead varied complex fire protection systems design projects in a multidisciplinary setting.

What you can expect to do here:
- Design building mechanical fire protection systems.
- Lead client and internal team discussions on fire protection concepts and solutions.
- Coordinate meetings with team members, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Prepare plans, hydraulic calculations, specifications, and cost estimates aligned with NFPA standards.
- Conduct field assessments and reporting in fire protection engineering.
- Oversee on-site quality, conduct field surveys, and attend site meetings as needed.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.
- Develop design solutions through sketches, models, and diagrams.
- Supervise and mentor staff to enhance technical skills.
- Perform quality assurance and control for own and peer projects.
- Help develop new standards and specifications for the fire engineering team.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, and design strategies for various projects.
- Support business development activities, including proposal and presentation preparation.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or other relevant training, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in fire protection systems design.
- Masters in Fire Protection preferred but not required.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in your province of residence.
- Experience in the nuclear field of fire protection engineering an asset (CSA N293, N393) and knowledge of NBCC, NFCC, provincial codes, various fire protection standards (UL, NFPA, CSA).
- UL Solutions Integrated System Testing Certification (CAN/ULC-S1001) an asset.
- Ability to design fire protection systems in Revit (AutoSprink RVT) or CAD (HydraCAD).
- Knowledge of HydraCalc software
- Ability to perform and interpret hydraulic calculations.
- Strong understanding of fire safety engineering principals
- Possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, and analytical skills. problem-solving and priority setting.
- Strong knowledge of fire suppression and fire alarm systems, both design and commissioning are an asset.
- Strong technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.
- Ability to work and communicate in French is an asset.
- Experience with CFD modeling software (i.e. FDS, ASCOS) is an asset.
- REQUIRED: Must be able to pass Security Clearance.
