Reporting to the Senior Director – Development, the person will hold a strategic position representing the company to governments, municipalities, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, acting as a trusted ambassador. They will be required to anticipate political, regulatory, and social issues and propose strategies to maximize business opportunities while reducing risks for the company.

Reporting to the Senior Director – Development, the person will hold a strategic position representing the company to governments, municipalities, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, acting as a trusted ambassador. They will be required to anticipate political, regulatory, and social issues and propose strategies to maximize business opportunities while reducing risks for the company.
Your day-to-day!
- Develop and implement a comprehensive community relations strategy for the company in Quebec.
- Develop and conclude partnership agreements with stakeholders involved in the development of our projects in order to facilitate social acceptance of the projects during both the development and construction phases.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with local communities to promote harmonious cooperation and prevent potential conflicts.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that development projects respect the interests and needs of local communities.
- Organize community meetings and events to inform and engage stakeholders in company projects.
- Assess and respond to stakeholder concerns and complaints in a timely and effective manner.
- Represent the company at public meetings, conferences, and other external events to promote a positive image of the company.
- Monitor trends and developments in the renewable energy sector in Quebec and share this information with the management team.
- Collaborate with the communications team to develop awareness and communication initiatives targeting local communities.
- Support public consultation, citizen participation, and community mobilization initiatives.
- Actively contribute to authorization, permitting, and land-use planning processes.
- Work closely with the development, operations, communications, and sustainability teams.
- Contribute to the budget planning for your department and manage the resources allocated to government and community affairs.
- Produce regular reports for management and recommend strategies tailored to emerging issues.
- Bilingualism (French and English, written and spoken) is required to ensure collaboration with different stakeholders outside of Quebec on a regular basis.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs, public relations, Indigenous relations, or regulatory affairs, ideally in the energy, natural resources, or infrastructure sectors.
- University degree in political science, public administration, law, international relations, communications, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of Quebec's political, regulatory, and economic framework, as well as Indigenous and municipal realities.
- Has a solid knowledge of the renewable energy industry.
- Commitment to sustainable development and adoption of best practices in terms of social acceptability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English.
- Proven ability to influence and build trusting relationships with high-level decision-makers.
- Ability to manage conflicts and resolve problems diplomatically.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with multiple types of audiences.
- Strategic mindset, diplomacy, and strong political acumen.
- Collaborative leadership and ability to work in a complex and fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently within Quebec.
- Bilingualism (French and English, written and spoken) is required to ensure collaboration with different stakeholders inside and outside of Quebec on a regular basis.
- The position can be based in the company's Longueuil (Quebec) headquarters, steps away from the Longueuil-Université de Sherbrooke metro station.
- This position is a P5 level.
