Reporting to the Controller, Accounting Operations, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing both the AR and general accounting functions as well as any related day-to-day accounting and month-end closing requirements. The Accounting Manager is a key accounting resource supporting both operations, administration, and corporate activities. This position presents an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping to grow and shape our accounting team at our Calgary corporate office. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with leadership to build a cohesive and high performing team within the accounting department.
Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Assist the Group Controller and Controller, Accounting Operations with the management and support of the ongoing activities of the accounting group.
- Analyze and manage various P&L and Balance Sheet accounts as allocated among the accounting group’s managers.
- Participate in the accurate and timely close of the accounting period ends, including the preparation of ongoing reporting requirements.
- Aid in the development, improvement, implementation, and design of policies and procedures, with eye towards efficiencies and automations.
- Manage daily activities, development, and performance of the A/R team and General Accountants as applicable, including performance reviews and establishing goals.
- Investigate and resolve financial results queries for internal customers.
- Perform business system (CDK) maintenance on tables and configurations owned by Accounting – Chart of Accounts, GL setup, etc.
- Coordinate and support audit requirements – internal and external.
- Support the Treasury function by overseeing the recording of deposits and preparation of bank reconciliations as well as administering POS terminals and portal.
- Perform other duties as required to support the Accounting Department.
Job Requirements and Qualifications Include:
- 3+ years of general accounting experience or similar.
- A post-secondary degree in a related discipline.
- Designated accountant or nearing completion of an accounting designation.
- Past supervisory, coaching, or leadership experience.
- Working knowledge of general accounting principles and standards.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge of Power Query and Power Automate.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong commitment for continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to self-motivate and ensure deadlines are met.
- Proficient ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
