COWI is proud to offer an exciting leadership opportunity for a Group Manager and Discipline Lead - Structures based in our established North Vancouver office. This role offers a compelling chance to manage and further develop COWI’s engineering presence in while partnering closely with our recognized network of technical leaders and engineering teams across Canada.
In this pivotal position, you will guide and develop a skilled team of structural engineers located in our North Vancouver office as well as manage and cultivate key client relationships with a specific focus on Provincial and Government clients. Your guidance will be essential in executing a diverse array of transportation projects in Western Canada, promoting innovation at every stage.
You will play an important part in COWI’s Canada leadership team, directly reporting to the Vice President, Head of Engineering Canada, focusing on serving our clients and further enhancing the capabilities of your team. Collaborating with fellow managers, you will play a strategic role in workforce planning and resource optimization as well as business development. Your deep understanding of your team’s strengths and development needs will be critical in supporting talent acquisition, retention, and ongoing professional growth within the company. Additionally, you will oversee both the effective pursuit and technical delivery of transportation projects, using your skills to ensure project excellence, expand client relationships, and support the sustained growth of COWI’s engineering practice.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Core Role:
- Provide leadership and mentorship to assigned staff, creating a culture of growth and collaboration, while supporting professional development by identifying opportunities for skill enhancement
- Manage key client relationships in Western Canada and lead strategic project pursuits while collaborating with senior leadership to develop and communicate a clear vision and strategy for the team.
- Serve as project manager, design manager, or technical specialist on diverse transportation projects for public, private, or contractor partners. Projects will vary in size and complexity.
- Define and monitor staff performance targets to ensure accountability and conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend competitive salaries based on contributions and results.
- Build a diverse and inclusive team, serving as an ambassador for COWI’s values.
As a Member of the Canada Leadership Team:
- Participate in strategy meetings to contribute to COWI Group's strategic priorities and directly support the operations of the Vice President, Head of Engineering Canada.
- Ensure COWI North America meets or fulfills its strategic targets.
- Manage business development and marketing efforts, identifying project opportunities and representing the Company in external settings, such as technical committees, conferences, seminars, professional bodies, and business groups
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients to support growth.

On top of that, you will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- A Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or can obtain within 6 months
- A min. 15+ years of experience in Bridge Design and Project Management in the consulting environment
- Experience in leading bridge projects with Western Canada clients, experience with the BC Ministry of Transportation is considered an asset
- Significant background in managing projects and overseeing teams, with a focus on relevant technical engineering knowledge.
- Extensive experience in team development, with skills in mentoring, coaching, and providing constructive feedback to team members.
- Demonstrated ability to lead others through change while showing genuine interest in employee career development.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with effective time management abilities and the capacity to thrive in an innovative environment.

Base compensation: $145,000 to $213,000 for North Vancouver location. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, skill set and/or location.
