Job Overview
As a Bartender at the newly opening Hyatt Place Toronto Airport, you will create memorable guest experiences by preparing and serving beverages with consistency, quality, and genuine hospitality. You will be responsible for ensuring the bar is well-stocked, clean, and welcoming, while promoting signature drinks, maintaining responsible alcohol service, and maximizing revenue through excellent service and upselling techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Service & Beverage Preparation
- Welcome guests warmly and provide prompt, friendly, and professional bar service.
- Prepare and serve beverages to standard recipes, ensuring consistency in taste and presentation.
- Promote house specialties and utilize upselling skills to maximize revenues.
- Provide food service to bar and lounge guests when required.
- Engage with guests, creating a lively, approachable, and enjoyable bar environment.
- Monitor guest behavior and consumption, ensuring responsible alcohol service in compliance with provincial laws.
- Request identification when necessary and refuse service when required with professionalism.
- Notify management immediately of any safety or service concerns involving alcohol consumption.
- Set up and break down the bar daily, ensuring liquor, mixers, garnishes, glassware, and supplies are prepared and stocked.
- Complete pre- and post-shift side duties such as filling ice bins, preparing garnishes, and cleaning equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the bar, lounge, and service areas, including sweeping, mopping, and wiping down counters, stools, and tables.
- Inspect bar equipment regularly to ensure proper operation and report any maintenance issues.
- Handle guest payments, process cash/credit transactions accurately, and balance the cash drawer at the end of each shift.
- Requisition, inventory, and secure all liquor and bar supplies before, during, and after service.
- Track wastage, shortages, and ensure cost controls are followed.
- Communicate and coordinate daily with Food & Beverage, Kitchen, and Front Office teams to ensure smooth service.
- Support special events, banquets, and hotel functions as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned while adhering to company and brand standards.
- Minimum 1 year of bartending experience in a hospitality or restaurant/bar environment preferred.
- Knowledge of liquors, beers, wines, cocktails, garnishes, and bar service techniques.
- Formal bartending training/certification preferred.
- Smart Serve (or provincial equivalent) certification required; Food Handler’s Certificate an asset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to:
- Remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. (boxes, kegs, glassware, supplies).
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and move quickly behind the bar and lounge area.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demands.
