The Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking applications from interested candidates for student research assistant position. They will work on multiple projects focused on molecular biology. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Joseph Gordon
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Laboratory tidying, organizing, and helping maintain laboratory inventory
- Helping develop laboratory spreadsheets and digital files
- Pipetting and preparing solutions
- Cell culture and transfection
- Fluorescent microscopy
- RNA and protein extractions and assays
- PCR and western blotting
- Tissue processing
- Laboratory duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or Research Technician
- UPEI Student with training in biology, immunology, and inflammation preferred
- Demonstrated interest in basic laboratory techniques
- Ability to be trained in basic laboratory techniques, such as pipetting
- Willingness to be trained and to follow established laboratory safety procedures under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and/or Technician
- Ability to pay attention to detail as the work is sensitive to error
- The ability to perform highly repetitive simple procedures
- Preference will be given to individuals with experience in immuno-metabolism, gene expression, and cell death
- Preference will be given to individuals with experience working with cardiomyocytes/myoblasts and skeletal muscle myoblasts
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Hours of work may be outside normal day working hours (afternoon shift), and or on weekends.
- Hours of work will vary depending on staff availability and demands of the project
