More specifically, RJC’s Building Science and Restoration division provides a specialized area of practice that requires experienced and creative designers, working together with skilled Contractors, to successfully complete both large and small projects. Our engineers and technologists work on a wide variety of projects including evaluations, assessments and testing, building maintenance/replacement planning, Prime Consulting and project management. Types of projects include building enclosure rehabilitations such as targeted balcony and fenestration replacements, roof and plaza/podium replacements, tender and contract administration, concrete restoration, coating programs, and deep energy retrofits, etc.

Candidate Profile:

The Building Science Engineer works with our Building Science and Restoration team and provides subject matter expertise in developing building envelope solutions and leading projects in Northern Alberta. The successful candidate is comfortable dealing with clients, communicating with contractors and working on active construction sites. A commitment to providing first-rate client service and technical excellence to deliver practical, creative solutions is essential. An inquisitive outlook, a hard worker who readily and quickly assumes responsibility and a team player who has the ability to work independently with minimum direction are traits that are required to be successful in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage building envelope projects from conceptual design to final completion
  • Conduct site investigations and evaluation of building envelope systems
  • Formulate envelope solutions to maximize energy efficiency and achieve carbon reduction in accordance with current building codes
  • Design and analysis of building envelope systems and preparation of reports and studies
  • Coordinate with other engineering and architectural disciplines to provide technical expertise on building envelope designs
  • Perform contract administration/construction review while executing project requirements
  • Market and solicit work from new and existing clients
  • As the subject matter expert, remain up to date on current and upcoming industry trends, standards and guidelines to establish and implement best practices

Professional Qualifications: Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. Preference may be given for those candidates with completed courses in Building Science. Project Management, legal and technical writing course / experience is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of previous experience in structural restoration structural engineering.
  • Registered P.Eng with APEGA
  • Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset.
  • Experience in the construction industry considered an asset.

  • Aptitude for working with existing buildings and comfortable working at heights. (RJC does a significant amount of roof consulting and related construction).
  • Familiarity with building construction and construction practices.
