Summary/Objective

The main responsibility of this position will be to perform routine analyses in the designated environmental laboratory. This includes logging in, preparing, performing analyses, and reporting results of samples. The Analyst will be responsible for following all documented procedures, recording all laboratory notes, and elevating technical issues to the laboratory manager. The Analyst works under minimal supervision using routine and standard methods. Part of this position is also a field-testing role that involves conducting air emissions testing for commercial and industrial clients while using a teamwork approach with other members of the testing team. The position will require supporting the basic aspects of testing projects including equipment preparation, deployment, staging/breakdown and other assigned tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Perform all job functions according to Alliance’s Health and Safety and Quality Assurance guidelines as appropriate to the job function.
  • Ensure the company is represented in a professional manner while at customer sites and in the office.
  • Ensure that all samples received by the laboratory are logged in according to the appropriate procedure including labeling, logging, and acknowledging.
  • Ensure instrumentation is running, troubleshoot issues, and make or coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Perform sample preparation, analysis and data reporting as requested on the required turnaround times.
  • Prepare reagents and standards for sample analysis.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and glassware.
  • Maintain inventory of standards and supplies; order replacements as needed.
  • Ensure all analysis is performed within the specifications of the appropriate analytical SOP.
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Performs field work for commercial and industrial clients.
  • Flexibility: Must be available to occasionally work 40+ hour weeks as well as some evenings.
  • Maintain Positive Attitude with ability to work well in groups.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry or related field, experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in general chemistry laboratory or 3 years of experience in an appropriate laboratory, Instrumental troubleshooting & maintenance.
  • Valid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office programs, including Work, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both with internal customers and external vendors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional behavior and appearance.
  • Ability to be organized and have attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, follow up on pending issues, meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety, previous laboratory experience preferred.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a laboratory setting as well as performing field testing when required.

Physical Demands

Must be able to meet certain physical demands such as:

  • Consistent standing or walking
  • Consistent bending, crouching or stooping
  • Lifting of objects weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Climbing ladders and/or stairs
  • Use of tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
  • Ability to work at elevated heights on stack platforms up to 300 feet
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in industrial environments in all seasons.
  • Use of applicable Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory.

Travel

Travel of up to 30% (including occasional overnight) is required as part of this position.
