The role
Reporting to the Senior Project Risk Manager, the Senior Advisor, Risk Manager will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could impact project delivery or Alto’s organizational objectives. This role ensures that risk management is embedded into project planning, execution, and governance, particularly in large-scale infrastructure or transportation initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in risk management, exceptional analytical and communication skills and experience working in large-scale infrastructure projects.

The role
Reporting to the Senior Project Risk Manager, the Senior Advisor, Risk Manager will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could impact project delivery or Alto’s organizational objectives. This role ensures that risk management is embedded into project planning, execution, and governance, particularly in large-scale infrastructure or transportation initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in risk management, exceptional analytical and communication skills and experience working in large-scale infrastructure projects.
The Responsibilities
- Lead risk identification workshops and interviews with stakeholders.
- Maintain and update the project risk register, tracking risk status, risk probability, impact and mitigations measures.
- Participate in the development and review of the project risks with the Private Development Partner (PDP) during the co-development phase, covering all technical project risk areas.
- Participate in the development and review of corporate risks within Alto.
- Assist the Risk and Mitigation Owner(s) with the development of risk mitigation strategies and monitoring implementation and effectiveness plans and adjust as necessary.
- Develop, prepare and review standardized risk reports and dashboards for working groups and management as required.
- Participate in key risk analysis and comparison for monthly project reviews and quarterly risk reviews.
- Collaborate with Cost Estimation and Schedule to identify the direct cost and schedule impacts of risk.
- Develop quantitative cost and schedule risk assessments using Monte Carlo simulation.
- Foster positive relationships and effective communication with the Private Development Partner, government agencies, and Alto throughout the project lifecycle.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- A recognized designation in project management or risk management is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a risk management specifically in large-scale infrastructure projects such as rail or transportation.
- Experience in a project controls role such as cost or schedule.
- Experience with risk management software solutions such as Active Risk Manager, Acumen Risk, @Risk, or other similar tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Being fluent in both Canadian official languages is a strong asset.
