The Opportunity

We are seeking a Water Metering Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and replacement of InnServices’ water metering infrastructure. This role plays an important part in ensuring accurate billing, responsive customer service, and the smooth operation of our metering systems.

 

What you will do:

  • Install, maintain, repair, and test residential, commercial, and industrial water meters.
  • Complete daily work orders and field activities related to water metering.
  • Carry out meter reading and ensure accurate data collection for billing.
  • Support the water meter replacement program and ensure projects are completed within set timelines and priorities.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and troubleshoot metering concerns, such as high consumption or billing questions.
  • Maintain accurate records of meter installations, repairs, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, contractors, and vendors to ensure safe and efficient metering operations.
  • Promote a positive, customer-focused experience in all public interactions.

 

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a municipal, water/wastewater, engineering, conservation, or environmental setting (or equivalent).
  • College diploma or equivalent in a civil, environmental, or engineering-related field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with small tools and equipment.
  • Computer literacy, including MS Office and specialized software (e.g., GIS, MCare, water meter programming systems).
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of water metering operations, relevant codes, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Valid Ontario “G” driver’s licence in good standing.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED and confined space training (or willingness to obtain).
  • Availability to work beyond normal hours during peak periods or emergencies.

 

Assets (Not Mandatory):

  • Operator-in-Training (OIT) – Water Distribution.
  • DWD410 Water Metering and Installation Course (800A Apprenticeship Course).
  • Familiarity with Sensus programming and related water meter testing equipment.
