Job Overview

Join Hardrock as a Technical Writer in the Parts and Service Division, reporting to the Technical Publications Supervisor. You'll create and publish technical documentation for Komatsu Mining Hard Rock Equipment, including manuals, guides, and catalogs covering operations, maintenance, installation, and repairs.

Collaborating with engineering, production, and suppliers, you'll ensure accuracy and alignment with product updates. Using XML tools and content management systems, you'll maintain high documentation standards.

This role is pivotal in facilitating safe and efficient operation of our products globally, contributing directly to user satisfaction and operational reliability. Key Job Responsibilities

  • Observe and analyze production processes, experimental setups, and developmental activities to compile accurate and detailed procedural documentation.
  • Engage effectively with production engineers, designers, and subject matter experts to gather technical insights and keep documentation current with technological advancements.
  • Study and integrate information from supplier catalogs, engineering drawings, technical reports, and industry publications to enhance the accuracy and completeness of technical materials.
  • Utilize XML editing software and component content management systems to author, organize, build, and publish publications tailored to diverse audiences, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
  • Review and update existing documentation, recommending improvements in scope, format, and content to enhance user comprehension and usability.
  • Lead initiatives converting traditional manuals into electronic and web-based formats, enhancing customer access and interaction with technical content.
  • Collaborate with translation services to manage the localization process, producing foreign-language versions of operator and service manuals accurately reflecting the original technical content.
  • Create and refine visual aids such as photographs, diagrams, sketches, charts, and illustrations to support and clarify textual content.
  • Coordinate layout and design aspects of publications, ensuring professional presentation and ease of navigation.
  • Oversee printing, duplication, and distribution logistics, ensuring timely delivery of materials to customers, internal stakeholders, and service teams.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Hold a technical certification or diploma in mechanical/electrical engineering, or equivalent qualifications (Technologist, Engineer, Technical Writer).
  • Have 3–5 years of experience with hard rock mining equipment or similar heavy machinery.
  • Strong understanding of best practices for technical writing, including structured documentation. Knowledge of, and experience with, DITA XML is beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Demonstrate strong technical writing skills; knowledge of 3D animation, graphic design, HTML/programming, and databases.
  • Understand bill of materials and engineering/manufacturing workflows.
  • Show strong problem-solving skills and perform well under pressure.
  • Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally
