The Senior Investment Counsellor will be responsible for identifying, prospecting and managing new business relationships with private clients and family offices. The role demands a sophisticated understanding of financial markets and an in-depth knowledge of the private client and family office landscape in Canada.
The Senior Investment Counsellor will also serve as a trusted advisor to a number of the firm’s current private clients. They will be responsible for reviewing asset allocation and investment policy, explaining portfolio decisions and discussing the firm's investment outlook.

Main Responsibilities
Business development
- Proactively prospect, identify and qualify potential prospects and develop a suitable sales process to capitalize on market opportunities in Central Canada (Ontario and Manitoba).
- Develop and implement targeted business development strategies with a view to penetrating various private client and family office segments.
- Establish business relationships with various entities and individuals that may help the firm grow its presence in the private client and family office segments.
- Participate in industry events and conferences.
- Establish a reputation with clients as an effective, insightful investment advisor and trusted long-term partner.
- Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing private clients.
- Stay abreast of the firm’s investment strategy, its outlook on the economy and capital markets.
- Regularly communicate with clients and intermediaries in order to share the firm’s investment strategy, philosophy and outlook on the economy and capital markets.
- Review investment policies and asset mixes and recommend changes if necessary.
- Provide regular updates to clients on their portfolio’s progress via documents, emails, telephone and in-person presentations.
- Answer client queries on their holdings, the firm’s investment strategy, economic outlook, or other matters affecting their portfolios.
- Process and monitor client transactions, and ensure their compliance.
- Liaise with custodians, accountants, consultants and other parties on behalf of clients.
- Collaborate with internal teams (portfolio management, client service, and compliance) to ensure client satisfaction and the delivery of high-quality service.
- To establish oneself with clients as an effective and insightful investment advisor and a trusted long-term partner.
- Develop strong relationships with existing and new clients.
- Grow the firm’s client base and assets under management.
- Be an ambassador for the firm’s values.
- University degree in Finance, Economics or a related discipline (MBA/MS is an asset)
- Minimum of ten years of experience in a similar position (Portfolio Manager, Client Relationship Manager, Business Development etc.) in investment management, investment banking, trading or consulting
- CIM designation and/or CFA charterholder
- Meet OSC, AMF and other provincial requirements to register as an investment advisor
- Bilingualism, both spoken and written (English and French), is an asset.
- Seasoned investment management professional with a strong track record of building successful, long-term relationships in the private client and family office landscape.
- Strong results orientation and ability to achieve sales targets
- Strong analytical and financial analysis skills and experience in capital markets
- Professional presence with strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
