The West Vancouver Parks, Culture & Community Services Department has an opening for one permanent full-time Program Coordinator – Health and Fitness to join our Community Wellness team. Reporting to the Community Wellness and Recreation Manager, this position will be responsible for the planning and provision of active rehabilitation, personal training, seniors group fitness, as well as wellness programs and services. This position is primarily based out of the West Vancouver Senior’s Activity Centre and the West Vancouver Community Centre.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For

  • supervising, developing, and mentoring kinesiologists, exercise physiologists, personal trainers and fitness instructors;
  • assessing individual and community fitness needs and interests;
  • planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating new and/or revised programs to ensure cost efficiency, effectiveness and program relevance;
  • recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating; union and non-union casual staff and instructors;
  • preparing promotional material and promoting interest and participation in health and fitness programs and initiatives in the community;
  • coordinating personal training, active rehabilitation exercise programs, health and wellness initiatives, senior’s/55+ fitness and wellness programs and special events.
  • working collaboratively and as part of an engaged team to design, support and promote district wide health and fitness programs and services; and,
  • performing other duties as required.

The preferred candidate will possess: strong leadership, budgetary, organizational, communication and customer service skills; previous experience and proven success in exemplary teaching methods and group leadership techniques related to fitness and rehabilitation instruction for all ages; sound knowledge of fitness facilities and equipment required for a wide range of physical abilities and age groups; a knowledge of the fitness and health needs, trends, interests, requirements, and resources of the community; familiarity with the philosophy, principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation.

The successful candidate has completed a University Degree with courses in Health & Fitness Discipline or related subjects or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Required certification includes related BCRPA Personal Trainer certification or equivalent; current CPR-C and Standard First Aid; and a valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle. Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, software is required. Working knowledge of JDE and Activenet software is ideal. BCAK Registered Kinesiologist and BCRPA Older Adult Fitness Leader designations are assets.

The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check and a copy of their credentials.

Hours Of Work

37.5 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Rate Of Pay

$35.72 per hour

This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.
