Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge? We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations.

The role

Alto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Advisor to lead efforts in optimizing socio-economic benefits and fostering strong Indigenous relations for the Project especially with Indigenous communities across Quebec. This role will ensure the project delivers positive economic and social outcomes for Indigenous communities while fostering respectful and collaborative relationships.

The Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of socio-economic benefit approaches and initiatives with Indigenous communities along the Alto high speed rail corridor.
  • With Indigenous partners, support the development of strategies that promote economic opportunities, including employment, business development and community readiness.
  • Lead research and policy analysis, including the design of engagements, roundtable discussions with experts, and develop reports that inform decision-making.
  • Lead and support governance tables with the private development partner, government officials, Indigenous partners.
  • Prepare presentations, briefing notes and summaries for senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Provide project management support, ensuring all deliverables are tracked and on-time.

The Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, business, social science or an equivalent combination of education and experience or similar field. A graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years experience in Indigenous economic development (including procurement, labour market and/or business development) with experience in co-designing initiatives with Indigenous communities, ideally within the transportation, infrastructure or natural resources sector specifically in a Quebec province context.
  • In-depth understanding of Indigenous rights, history, cultures and issues facing Indigenous communities.
  • Proven track record in building relationships and navigating complex negotiations with Indigenous governments, leaders and organizations.
  • Proficiency in both of Canada’s official languages (desirable). The ability to communicate in one or multiple Indigenous languages is an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
