Role Summary

The Lead Hand plays a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality production operations. This position is responsible for setting up equipment, staging ingredients, and guiding the activities of machine operators and line workers to ensure compliance with specifications, HACCP, and food safety requirements. The Lead Hand fosters a safe, organized, and collaborative environment while helping the team deliver consistent results in quality, productivity, and cost efficiency. This will be an Afternoon Shift position, but will be training on the Day Shift for the next 3 months.

Responsibilities

Production Operations

  • Set up and centerline all production equipment according to specifications.
  • Ensure proper staging and supply of ingredients and materials to the line.
  • Monitor processes, perform product pick-ups, and make corrections/adjustments as required.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections of equipment and work areas; ensure safety guards are in place.
  • Maintain compliance with HACCP, food safety, and quality standards, reporting deficiencies to the Supervisor and QA as needed.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and direct machine operators and line workers, ensuring adherence to GMPs and PPE requirements.
  • Train and support employees in various line positions.
  • Organize employee break schedules and monitor attendance.
  • Promote a positive and safe work environment, addressing concerns or incidents promptly.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Complete and maintain accurate records, including process monitor reports, staging reports, CCP checks, and product evaluations.
  • Report out-of-spec results and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety, food safety, and quality policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Previous experience in food manufacturing or similar production environment.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to guide and support team members.
  • Good communication skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Solid math and basic computer skills for reporting and monitoring.
  • Ability to learn and operate material handling equipment (training provided).
  • Reliable attendance and commitment to teamwork.
  • This position is based in a food production plant, with work performed on the processing floor. The environment may be cool (18°C or lower), damp, and involve exposure to noise, dust, and moving equipment. Team members are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times to ensure safety and food quality.
