Are you a project management and continuous improvement professional passionate about public engagement? The City of Edmonton is seeking a Methods and Practices Lead to join the Office of the City Manager's Integrated Communications section. This role is a key part of our commitment to evolving our public engagement methods, practices, and capacity building. You will be responsible for identifying and implementing best practices and innovative approaches to ensure our teams have the skills to deliver high-quality public engagement. This position also leads the development of community capacity for participating in and leading engagement activities.

What will you do?

  • Project-manage the development and delivery of continuous improvement activities and learning and training opportunities, to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of public engagement services across the City of Edmonton
  • Identify, recommend, and implement new engagement tools and techniques by conducting needs assessments and applying knowledge of best practices
  • Lead the evaluation and standardization of engagement templates, practices and methods to ensure they remain relevant to the community and are effective in reaching the voices and perspectives the City needs to hear
  • Help identify and nurture ongoing relationships with external community partners in the not-for-profit, private, and post-secondary sectors whose work connects with public engagement at the City
  • Align public engagement activities with corporate plans and strategic frameworks such as The City Plan, the Indigenous Framework, and the Anti-Racism Strategy
  • Provide technical guidance and consult with City leadership on annual strategic business plans and work plans
  • Supervise summer students and guide their work as they research and develop improvements to public engagement processes and practices

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in education, community or public engagement, public administration, public policy, business, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of five years of related practical experience, including curriculum and program development
  • Knowledge and experience with project management, change management, and IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation)


Assets:

  • Project management, change management, and/or IAP2 certification
  • A graduate degree in a related field


Skills required for success:

  • Ability to identify and respond to social trends that impact public engagement and proactively address potential disruptions in service delivery
  • Ability to interpret and translate complex public engagement processes and practices for a wide range of audiences across the City
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively, train and facilitate groups, and conduct negotiations with various teams across the organization
  • Ability to conduct primary and secondary research, analyze data and trends from public engagement activities, summarize findings and provide recommendations
  • Ability to lead priority projects and cross-departmental teams with City-wide impacts

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability may be required to attend events
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states
  • This position is eligible for the flexible work arrangement, which includes up to an additional 25 earned days off (EDOs) annually, depending on hours of work per week

Hours of Work: 33.75 or 40 hours per week

Salary Range:

  • For 33.75 hours per week - $44.283 - $55.601 (Hourly); $78,015.58 - $97,955.06 (Annually)
  • For 40 hours per week - $41.847 - $52.537 (Hourly); $87,376.54 - $109,697.26 (Annually)
