Backend AI Systems Engineer – Game Development (Montreal, QC)
Ironbelly is building something wild with GameFrame: an AI platform that enables users to build games in Unreal through natural language.
As a Backend AI Systems Engineer, you'll design and scale the intelligent backend that powers conversational game development. Your work will sit at the intersection of multi-agent orchestration, large-scale backend engineering, and Unreal Engine integration.

- Architect and implement multi-agent AI systems (LangGraph Swarms, custom ReAct agents, memory systems).
- Build real-time backend infrastructure that scales to hundreds of concurrent creators.
- Integrate AI orchestration with Unreal Engine gameplay frameworks (combat, progression, inventory, etc.).
- Develop resilient, low-latency systems using FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, WebSockets, and Kubernetes.
- Push boundaries at the frontier of AI x Game Development.
- 5+ years backend engineering (Python, microservices, distributed systems).
- Proven experience with real-time systems, scaling, and fault tolerance.
- Hands-on Unreal Engine knowledge (Actors, Components, Blueprints, GAS).
- AI systems experience (LangChain/LangGraph, RAG, multi-agent orchestration).
- Bonus: frontend skills (React, TypeScript) or open-source AI contributions.
- Build tech that has never existed before: real-time AI orchestration for game development.
