Position Summary
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to residents at Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). This role involves assessing residents' health needs, providing direct nursing care, administering medications, and supporting residents' overall well-being. The RPN collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, residents, and families to ensure a safe, compassionate, and resident-centered approach to care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to residents, including monitoring health status, administering medications, and performing treatments as per physician orders.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Observe and report changes in residents' conditions, ensuring timely intervention and care adjustments.
- Promote resident safety, dignity, and independence while following infection prevention and control protocols.
- Educate residents and families on health conditions, medication management, and wellness strategies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and resident responses in electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Respond to emergencies and provide immediate nursing interventions as required.
- Ensure compliance with Long-Term Care regulations, standards, and facility policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development to enhance nursing practice.

Education & Certifications:
- Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited college.
- Valid registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse.
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an RPN, preferably in long-term care, geriatrics, or a healthcare setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Clinical Expertise: Strong knowledge of geriatric care, chronic disease management, and palliative care.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with residents, families, and healthcare teams.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to assess residents’ conditions, recognize changes, and respond with appropriate interventions.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure holistic resident care.
- Time Management: Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple residents' care needs efficiently.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience using electronic medical records (EMRs) and healthcare documentation systems.
- Compassion: Ability to provide empathetic, person-centered care while fostering a respectful and supportive environment.
- Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of Ontario's LTC regulations, Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) standards, and best practices in nursing care.
- Emotional Resilience: Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and composed in emotionally demanding situations.
- Work is performed within the Glen Stor Dun Lodge, involving direct contact with residents.
- This position requires shift work, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases, requiring adherence to infection control protocols.
- Cognitive demands include a high level of responsibility and attention to detail required in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of residents or medical equipment.
- Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
