Minimum Qualifications
- Education; minimum High School diploma with 1-3 years of experience
- Prior experience operating an asphalt paver screed is typically required
- Understanding of asphalt materials, paving methods, and equipment operation
- Ability to troubleshoot issues with the screed and paving process
- Safety-focused mindset and knowledge of construction safety standard
- Ability to communicate effectively with other crew members and supervisors.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Equipment operator certification or safety training (e.g., WHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, Flagging) is an asset
- Physically fit to work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to work closely with the paving crew
- Safely and efficiently operate the free-floating screed, making adjustments to control asphalt depth, width, and grade
- Ensure the asphalt mat is placed at the specified thickness, width, and texture, and that the surface is level and consistent
- Monitor and adjust the flow of asphalt material to maintain uniformity and prevent segregation
- Work closely with the paving crew, paver operator, and other team members to coordinate paving activities and achieve project goals
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe work environment
