The Technical Director, Retube Tooling Systems plays a pivotal strategic and technical leadership role in advancing our Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) capabilities. This role is ideal for a seasoned nuclear professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering excellence, innovation, and people leadership. The Technical Director will provide strategic and principal leadership role with respect to overall tooling design, driving industry leading design of nuclear life extension tooling both for performance and maintainability, specifically on the OPG Pickering Retube Project. The Technical Director is responsible for building and sustaining a high-performing, multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and technicians. This team will deliver world-class tooling solutions for CANDU reactors.

Your Role Within The Team
Strategic Leadership & Capability Development:
- Champion the growth and modernization of Retube Tooling System capabilities, aligning with long-term OEM strategies.
- Lead the development of advanced nuclear tooling and field execution practices.
- Ensure the department is adequately sized and technically competent to meet current and future demands. Support recruitment and capability development efforts in this regard.
- Drive succession planning, talent development, and knowledge transfer across the organization.
- Promote a strong nuclear safety culture using INPO 14-005: Principles for Excellence in Nuclear Supplier Performance and INPO 12-012: Traits of a Healthy Nuclear Safety Culture.
- Ensure adequate training programs and qualification records are in place and to meet requirements of CSA CAN3 N299.0 for all roles.
- Ensure team members demonstrate ownership of goals generated from strategies and action plans, to directly contribute to business growth. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
- Directly oversee Technical Managers ensuring their alignment with these objectives.
- Implement performance metrics to monitor and improve team effectiveness.
- Inspire a culture of ownership, accountability, and excellence.
- Strengthen relationships with key customers and stakeholders by driving the technical leaders to regular, purposeful engagement including customer site visits.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with tooling vendors and provide necessary senior-level oversight of key technical inputs and decisions.
- Represent Candu Energy at industry conferences, technical forums, and knowledge-sharing events.
- Support STEM outreach and public education initiatives to elevate the CANDU brand.
- Oversee departmental budgets, resource planning, and financial performance.
- Ensure adherence to engineering governance, quality assurance, and customer standards.
- Develop and maintain engineering procedures and best practices.

- Minimum 18 years of experience in engineering project delivery, including:
- 12+ years in engineering/design roles.
- 5+ years in leadership or management.
- 1+ year of site-based project experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited University, in a core engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer, licensed in a Province of Canada and/or in a US State, and member in good standing.
- Effectively lead a knowledge-based, multi-discipline engineering team.
- Mentor and coach staff, including development and execution of improvement plans, and regular performance feedback.
- Engage in succession planning to ensure healthy leadership and engineering pipeline.
- Engage in talent reviews to ensure high potential candidates have developmental plans to enhance current performance and to prepare them for future roles.
- Expertise in inspection qualification, welding, NDE, robotics, and tooling design for FME and EQ parameters.
- Demonstrated credibility and networks within the nuclear industry, particularly with CANDU stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of nuclear plant systems, operations, and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project planning skills.
- Periodic travel to project sites and customer locations, as required.
