Job Description

The Laser Tracker Specialist – Mechanical Surveyor is responsible for leading precision 3D measurement projects using Hexagon laser tracking equipment. This role combines technical expertise with leadership to support manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, and inspection processes. Candidates must have a strong understanding of engineering drawings and metrology software including PolyWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Ensure all measurement and inspection activities are conducted with full consideration of personnel and equipment safety.
  • Lead and operate Hexagon laser tracker systems for high-precision 3D measurements
  • Perform alignment, inspection, and verification tasks on mechanical parts and large assemblies
  • Interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) from blueprints and CAD models to ensure compliance
  • Calibrate and maintain metrology equipment per standards
  • Generate detailed measurement reports and communicate results with engineering and quality teams
  • Document procedures and promote continuous improvement
  • Mentor junior technicians and support team development

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of Civil, Mechanical, Geomatics, or Survey Engineering Technology Program
  • Experience: 5+ years in industrial metrology or precision surveying, with leadership experience preferred
  • Software: Proficient in AutoCAD and metrology software including SpatialAnalyzer, PC-DMIS, and PolyWorks
  • Skills: Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprints, and 3D CAD files
