Position Information

The Nephrology Program at The Ottawa Hospital is one of the largest academic Kidney Care Program in Canada, offering a wide range of services to those affected by kidney disease living in the Champlain Region. These services include various types of kidney dialysis including peritoneal dialysis, home hemodialysis and in-center hemodialysis offered on the 3 campuses of The Ottawa Hospital and at 7 satellite hemodialysis units located throughout the region. A nocturnal hemodialysis unit is located at the General Campus, a kidney transplantation program and a number of highly specialized clinics are offered at the Jindal Kidney Care Centre at the Riverside Campus. Inpatient care is centralized at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital admitting patients for specialized kidney related care. Our team of highly specialized individuals strive to provide excellent patient-centered care to every patient every time.

This is a corporate position responsible for satellite hemodialysis units across the region, and has a home base at the Riverside campus.

Rotation/Shifts

Days, 8 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements

  • Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing;
  • Masters in Nursing or Education or equivalent;
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO);
  • Three (3) to five (5) years recent hemodialysis experience;
  • Speciality certification in Nephrology nursing or willingness to pursue;
  • Experience in Sustained Low Efficiency Dialysis (SLED).
  • Knowledge of change management theory;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Communicate effectively, in both oral and written format;
  • Positive interpersonal skills;
  • Requires the ability to direct, supervise, teach, advise nursing personnel in the area of nursing standards;
  • Use effective teaching strategies incorporating educational theories and practice standards;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability;
  • Demonstrated group facilitator skills;
  • Demonstrated effective presentation skills;
  • Knowledge and comfort working with new and emerging technologies in the area of education;
  • Knowledge of hospital computer system including Microsoft office/Windows environment;
  • Requires a thorough working knowledge of current nursing theories, research and practice standards;
  • Requires a thorough working knowledge of current and future trends in health care;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current legislation affecting patients and employees;
  • Valid drivers licence;
  • Eligible to work in Canada.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years teaching experience;
  • Nephrology certification;
  • Recent experience in peritoneal dialysis;
  • Proficiency in English and French oral expression (advanced level and comprehension (advanced level).
