The Gifts of Hope Toy Room Coordinator assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army Gifts of Hope Program

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.

Job Description
Position Purpose summary:
The Gifts of Hope Toy Room Coordinator assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army Gifts of Hope Program
Responsibilities And Accountabilities
The incumbent will assist with the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:
- To assist in all aspects of the Gifts of Hope Christmas Toy Room Program which can range from registration, ordering supplies, to packing and distributing toys.
- Ongoing reinforcement of the vison and values of The Salvation Army Okanagan Central Community Church and Ministries.
- Enter data and assist with file management,
- Assist in evaluating and processing registrants for the Gifts of Hope Toy program.
- Assist in the screening of applicants assuring they meet the required means test as well as cross checking with other agencies to verify there is no duplication of service.
- Record all essential information into the case management database Link2Feed.
- Assist with referrals for additional support needs that arise in the registration process
- To be open to praying with individuals as requested.
- To liaise with The Salvation Army Okanagan Central Community Church and Ministries through the Community Services Director with reference to additional program partnering opportunities.
- Assist in updating and maintaining the registration process.
- Collects, organizes and prepares statistical data and other program information either through Link2Feed or Microsoft Excel.
- Assist in the creating of information and training material for staff and volunteers involved in the Gifts of Hope Toy Program.
- Train and lead volunteers who will be working in the Gifts of Hope Toy Distribution Centre.
- Coordinate Gift of Hope distribution days in cooperation with the Community Services Director.
- Assist with the follow up of telephone and email inquiries.
- Assist in the organization and set up of the registration venues including all IT needs.
- Prepare briefing reports for the leadership team at The Salvation Army Okanagan Central Community Church.
- Assist in and lend support to events with community partners for toy drives and liaison with local schools and service groups to organize and promote toy drives. Help in the arranging of and collection of toys following those events.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Salvation Army in all aspects
- Represent the organization in a professional manner and ensure the efficient and professional operation of the Gifts of Hope program.

Managerial Responsibility
- This position reports directly to the Community Services Director.
- This role works independently and within a team giving leadership and direction to volunteers
- This role does not have any financial or budgetary accountabilities and all approved eligible personal travel expenses are reimbursed
- This is a temporary contract position: hours will be varied based on program needs.
- Some flexibility in scheduling is expected; some weekend and evening work may be required.
- Time commonly spent in office environments in agreeable conditions, in service and administration areas of social service centers, or in corps settings.
- This position provides direct service to the community and will support people from a diverse range of backgrounds and histories.
- The ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
- Local travel to events, schools, Community Services office etc. should be anticipated.
Education And Experience Qualifications
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of high school.
- Completion of a two (2) year Community College Diploma in a human services field, i.e., Social Services Worker is an asset.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience in providing casework services, documenting, and maintaining case files, working in collaboration with other service providers, community outreach, and working with people of diverse backgrounds in a social services/mental health setting.
- Must have a solid understanding of basic to intermediate computer operation including Microsoft 365 programs, data entry, internet browsers, and some file management and ability to create reports.
- Knowledge of community-based resources is required and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
- Experience with program facilitation, administrative duties, and program development.
- Experience with community development considered an asset
- Hold a valid BC Class “5” drivers license, own vehicle and insurance and provide a copy of a driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
- Display competence in developing and maintaining appropriate participant relationships and interagency relations
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Proficient computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to enter data and perform statistical analysis efficiently and accurately.

- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening as required.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Ability and willingness to provide First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certifications is an asset.
