The Building Great Neighbourhoods Branch leads the process of integrating and leveraging a scope of work that maximizes the full potential for strong and sustainable neighbourhoods. We are at the heart of aligning and advancing multi-faceted neighbourhood renewal efforts with a focus on neighbourhood roadway reconstruction.

In this role you will apply your project management skills and technical knowledge to an exciting program of mature residential neighbourhoods projects that directly enhance the lives of Edmontonians. You will collaborate with various internal collaborators and external consultants to deliver innovative solutions to projects of variable complexity. Throughout the development of your own projects and the support you provide to others, your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.

What will you do?:

  • Support the Project Manager to deliver projects on time, on budget and within scope
  • Act as a project liaison for the Program/Project Manager with the consultants and contractors
  • Monitor and report risk to the Program/Project Manager
  • Apply project management best practices and systems to support project goals
  • Assist Project manager with scheduling meetings, taking notes, drafting correspondence and editing documents
  • Organize reports, invoices, contracts, and other essential project documents
  • Support public engagement activities and processes
  • Apply City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines to each project with support from Branch Safety Officer
  • Liaise with business partners and engage the public and other collaborators throughout the project
  • Lead and support projects with public engagement plans and activities in accordance with the Branch public engagement charter
  • Foster an inclusive culture of collaboration amongst project teams, across the corporation and beyond
  • Perform other related duties as required


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, such as Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Communications & Engagement, Urban Planning, Recreation Administration, Business or Project Management and a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible project coordination experience OR;
  • A Diploma in a related field, such as Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Communications & Engagement, Urban Planning, Recreation Administration, Business or Project Management and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible project coordination experience


Skills required for success:

  • Strong project coordination skills including an understanding of project management methods and techniques (PMBOK best practices)
  • Demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary teams in the planning and design of projects, including solving complex and sensitive issues
  • Proven planning, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of planning and design related to transportation, utilities, Low Impact Development and open space infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of relevant design guidelines, standards and principles relevant to Building Great Neighbourhoods’ scope of work
  • Experience supporting public engagement processes, working with the public and answering public inquiries
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate, write reports and present material
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
  • Experience working with external consultants and internal stakeholders
  • Proven planning, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts and achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style

Assets:

  • Coursework/training in project management, public engagement, financial/contract management or leadership
  • Experience with neighbourhood-related issues and working collaboratively with community groups
  • Knowledge and background in computers and computer applications in project management environment, including Google Applications, AutoCAD, SAP and Trimble (formerly e-Builder)


Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). You will be required to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business. Where appropriate, you will be reimbursed for expenses related to that travel in accordance with City of Edmonton policy.


Work Environment:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Up to 1 Permanent Full-time position

Hours of Work:

  • Approximately May to October: 40 hours per week. No Earned Days Off (EDO) for this period
  • Approximately November to April: 33.75 hours per week with Earned Days Off


Salary:

  • For 40 Hours : $41.847 -52.537 Hourly/ $87,376.540 - $109,697.260 Annually
  • For 33.75 Hours: $44.283 - 55.601 Hourly/ $78,015.580 - $97,955.060 Annually
