Position Overview
The Communications Manager is a key member of the team, responsible for developing, executing, and managing Enserva’s communications strategy to lead advocacy, manage key issues, and engage members. This role is ideal for a communications professional experienced in fast-paced policy environments looking to broaden their reach. Experience in government relations, advocacy, and/or stakeholder engagement will be considered a strong asset, as this role supports the organization’s efforts to build and maintain trusted relationships across industry, government and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Planning
- Develop, execute and manage comprehensive communication strategies aligned with Enserva’s mission and objectives.
- Craft clear, compelling messages that communicate Enserva’s value and leadership in the energy services sector.
- Monitor, measure and report on communication effectiveness to leadership, recommending improvements where needed.
Issues Management and Media Relations
- Serve as a primary point of contact for media inquiries and proactively pitch stories that showcase Enserva’s work and impact.
- Actively monitor industry and media trends to identify emerging issues in real time, and opportunities for thought leadership and advocacy.
- Draft press releases, talking points for senior executives, and key messages on important industry issues as they arise.
- Develop executive communications, including speeches, presentations and opinion editorials for leadership.
Communications Management
- Ensure communications staff and contractors keep all digital assets updated, and communications mediums are used effectively.
- Oversee the creation of high-quality content for digital, print and event platforms, including newsletters, social media, annual reports and website updates.
Stakeholder & Member Engagement
- Develop initiatives to enhance member engagement through effective communication tools, including members showcase and other opportunities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support industry events, webinars, and conferences.
Government & Industry Relations (Asset)
- Support advocacy and government relations efforts by drafting briefing materials, advocacy communications and policy updates.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders to support Enserva’s strategic priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
- 3–8 years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or stakeholder engagement.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
- Proven experience managing media relations and/or digital communications platforms in a policy-intensive environment.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in the energy sector or a membership-based association is an asset.
- Knowledge of government processes and/or government relations experience is a strong asset.
