About The Position
We are expanding our tactical initiative to support laboratory operations through seasonal and workflow fluctuations. As part of this initiative, we are hiring 2 Entry-Level Laboratory Assistants. This role is ideal for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in a lab setting while supporting critical cross-functional tasks across departments.
Successful candidates will be cross-trained in multiple areas—including Sample Preparation, Weighing, Specialty Assay, XRF, Spectroscopy, and Digestion—and deployed based on operational demand. This approach minimizes disruption from resource reallocation and ensures continuity across analytical workflows.

Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately weigh and handle geological materials,
- Scan, track, organize, and maintain accurate records of sample boxes,
- Label, sort and maintain sequence organization of materials and labware accurately and efficiently,
- Perform basic analytical techniques, such as, pXRF scans and pH measurements,
- Clean and maintain labware and analytical equipment,
- Prepare instrument solutions and filtration,
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of work areas at all times,
- Maintain daily equipment verification records and report any equipment issues promptly,
- Provide flexible, cross-functional support to laboratory departments
- Use correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
- Report any safety or quality issues promptly to the supervisor or manager
- Adapt to shifting priorities and project-based assignments
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager.
- Familiarity with sample weighing and the use of laboratory balances;
- Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail;
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal);
- Ability to follow procedures precisely and escalate issues when needed;
- Basic computer and Webview skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Basic computer literacy (email, printing, data entry)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required,
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, stand, and walk for extended periods,
- Ability to stand for a full shift,
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities,
- You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
- An estimated hourly pay of $20.97 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
