Join our collaborative Geotechnical Engineering group! You’ll provide expertise and support to deliver consistent, safe and reliable geotechnical engineering solutions for the analysis, surveillance and construction oversight of earthen structures including fluid retaining structures (dams), earth fill waste dumps, reclamation stockpiles, roads, and mine pit walls.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical, Civil or Geological Engineering
  • Minimum five (5) years of related geotechnical experience preferably within mining, tailings, and/or oil sands operations
  • Must be registered as a P.Eng in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Experience with slope stability and seepage analyses, and CAD programs (MicroStation or AutoCad)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Safety Regulations (AER, CDA, MAC)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Responsibilities:

As a facility engineer for existing or new structures:

  • Assist in verification of construction including site inspections, interpreting instrument readings, developing instrumentation scopes, writing reports and assessing lab/field test results
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses including slope stability, hydraulic fracture, settlement and seepage analyses
  • Prepare technical documents for regulatory reporting requirements and work scopes for new construction and to address remedial actions for existing structures’ integrity and dam safety
  • Work under direction of senior engineers to support geotechnical investigations and analyses including slope stability, seepage, liquefaction, hydraulic fracture, settlement, and freeboard
  • Collaborate with other teams including Short and Long Range Mine Planning, Tailings Planning, Operations and Reclamation to understand plans, optimize designs and make geotechnical recommendations

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of Syncrude Aurora location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided
