Reporting to the Live Logistics Supervisor, the Live Haul Traffic Controller will be responsible for directing and monitoring live haul drivers, shunters, and equipment for all movements of equipment and chickens. Full awareness and responsibility of communication of travel routes/destinations, available equipment & location, driver regulatory compliance and animal welfare considerations for all loads and drivers. Fully utilizing technology such as electronic logs, Cloud Hawk tracking and other technologies to control optimal flow of birds to Maple Lodge Farms for processing.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Ensuring drivers are given the necessary support by directing them on equipment to use, providing accurate routing including farm layouts, controlling drivers’ routes, coordinate response to breakdowns and address any emergencies that drivers might encounter on the road.
  • Monitor driver’s ELD for example hours of service (HOS), driving behaviour, example speeding, to conform to regulatory requirements and inform Manager of deviations.
  • Ensuring timely communication, for example delays, cancellations, as well as birds left on farm to Grower Services, Procurement, Animal Welfare, Plant, Supply and Demand and MLF Catching Services.
  • Provide and monitor equipment assigned to drivers, example transponders, trailer sensors, tractor keys, trailer fobs, and mobiles to ensure accountability and traceability.
  • Prepare and provide sanitation kits when needed for AI zones
  • Update tractor assignment list and equipment in & out of service sheets.
  • Measure asset utilization.
  • Manager the shunting of trailers for Line 1, 2 & 3 to ensure continuous flow of trailers into the lairage, monitoring the offloading and reloading area to prevent line stoppage. Updating FIFO report & kill sequence to track movement of trailers to the plant.
  • Review all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and work instructions annually to ensure they are acquainted with the latest procedures.
  • Support investigations into root causes of errors that occur in the operation, for example wrong catch count, flock ID, grower code, form 6 number and barn address.
  • Assist Dispatch Scale Operator whenever necessary.

  • Adhere/comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of improved department specific processes, policies and procedures.
  • Recommend, develop and implement enhancements and improvements to departmental policies and procedures.

What You Will Bring

  • Minimum 2 years of experience required;
  • Must be able to leverage technology to effectively control and make quick adjustments to target loads schedule for the plant.
  • Team-player with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Awareness of potential violations in driver HOS or driving behavior/compliance.
  • Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRC, food safety, food quality, etc.;
  • Working knowledge of knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, and all other workplace H&S regulations;
  • Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Ability to work / excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential;
