Accountant Staffing

Our client, a well-respected and forward-thinking organization, is looking for an experienced Controller to lead and strengthen their corporate services team in a permanent role based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Reporting to senior leadership, the successful candidate will oversee financial operations, mentor and develop staff, and provide strategic guidance during an ongoing amalgamation process. This role is ideal for a proactive and detail-oriented professional with strong leadership skills, ideally with prior banking or financial services experience.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team, including Assistant Managers of Finance and Accounting, payroll, AP/AR, and accounting clerks
- Oversee all aspects of accounting and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of information
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to inform organizational decision-making
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Drive process improvements, system upgrades, and integration initiatives as required
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory standards
- Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures and financial best practices
- Collaborate with senior leadership during the ongoing amalgamation to support strategic objectives
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- CPA designation preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 7 years of relevant accounting/finance experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role
- Experience in banking or financial services environments considered an asset
- Strong proficiency with accounting software; experience with Prolong/Phizer an asset (training available)
- Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Excellent leadership, mentorship, and team development skills
- Highly organized with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities
- Initiative-driven, adaptable, and collaborative, able to thrive in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment
Compensation:
$90,000 - $120,000 annually commensurate with experience
