Description
Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems (ASCS) builds and operates the systems that host the world's largest e-commerce product catalog. We power the online shopping experience, allowing customers to find, discover and buy anything they want, anytime. The Offers Platform team within ASCS are at the core of all Amazon Stores experiences worldwide. We are the authority for product information and critical purchasing data, such as availability and price serving billions of product and buyability records. Offers team respond to billions of requests per day from thousands of internal clients that power the website and other customer interfaces, such as Kindle, Amazon Alexa, Groceries and emerging agentic and generative AI initiatives. We get more traffic than most other Amazon systems with requests handled within a few milliseconds (at P99). Our team owns software running in a distributed, high performance, high availability NoSQL data storage system with an inbuilt micro-service computing environment that calculates and vends product and offering information.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager, you will be joining the team that enables Amazon's Catalog to operate at scale. You will be leading a team of software developers solving novel technical challenges, working with tenured Principal Engineers and Senior Software Engineers on a daily basis.

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Your Responsibilities Include
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including customers, product managers, stakeholders and leaders to ensure the successful end to end delivery of product capabilities.
- Define your team's roadmap and manage the ongoing projects, keeping customers informed, update senior management, and represent the team to their dependencies.
- Technical leadership including architecture and design discussions for engineering problems and technical deep dives to ensure resolution and root causes of complex issues.
- Work with your team, your peers, senior management, and senior engineers to implement best practices in software development and operational processes.
- Develop and grow the members of your team, as well as mentoring others.
- Keep up to date with new technologies used in the field and by our customers, to stay current in our rapidly changing environment
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
