Position Summary

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our Accounting team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate and efficient processing of financial data, maintaining cost accounting systems, and supporting month-end and year-end activities. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices in the accounting system (SYSPRO) and verify accuracy before posting.
  • Sort, code, and enter accounts payable data; match invoices with receipts and purchase orders.
  • Communicate with receiving and purchasing departments to resolve discrepancies.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries regarding unpaid invoices and process payments after approvals.
  • Prepare customer invoices upon project completion and assist with AR collections.
  • Identify and correct errors arising from data entry and account postings.
  • Reconcile accounts and monitor outstanding debits and credits.
  • Maintain a cost accounting system to ensure accurate costing for materials, inventory, and labor.
  • Assist with payroll time sheet processing and employee expense reports.
  • Support ERP improvement initiatives and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Liaise with internal departments, customers, and vendors for financial data resolution.
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end closings by preparing analyses and reports.
  • Perform other accounting tasks as required to support business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in accounting or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of related accounting experience
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Experience with SYSPRO or other ERP systems is an asset
  • Experience in systems implementation is considered an asset
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to meet deadlines under pressure
