The opportunity

As an Investment Analyst in the Natural Resources (“NR”) team within the Infrastructure and Natural Resources (“INR”) group, you will have a key role in analyzing potential private equity investment opportunities, executing transactions and working with existing portfolio companies to craft strategy and implement value-enhancing initiatives.

Who You’ll Work With

You will be joining our Toronto office, where you will work in a dynamic team-based environment, directly supporting senior team members across all sectors and geographic regions. You will have the chance to define and differentiate yourself as an investor and build strategic relationships within the global market.

INR consists of a team of over 75 highly-specialized private equity investment professionals, with offices in Toronto, London and Singapore, and an additional presence in Santiago, Chile. INR leads a geographically diverse portfolio of approximately C$56 billion with assets in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Our Natural Resources team manages a portfolio focused on energy, metals, timberland, food, and natural climate solutions. We invest in producing and near-producing assets through direct ownership, royalties, and scaled platforms, building long-term partnerships with operators and management teams. The portfolio spans agriculture, aquaculture, mining, carbon platforms, and sustainable forestry, offering exposure to diverse sectors and investment structures.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and employ financial modeling tools to analyze investment opportunities;
  • Assist in the due diligence process and incorporate the findings into a financial model;
  • Identify key value drivers and financial risks and perform related financial sensitivity and scenario analysis;
  • Work closely with external advisors, consultants and partners to assess risks and submit bids under tight timelines;
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and investment recommendations to senior management and, where applicable, the Board of OTPP;
  • Review and analyze financial reports, budgets, board books and other information prepared by management of our portfolio companies;
  • Work with portfolio company management to build and maintain financial models that are used to analyze strategic issues and value the company;
  • Support internal strategic project initiatives, and;
  • Support the preparation of internal annual valuations.

What You’ll Need

  • ~12 to 18 months of experience, preferably in investment banking, principal investing, or mergers & acquisitions advisory
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with the pursuit of a CFA designation considered a plus
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence others and comfort presenting to senior audiences
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth financial modelling analysis
  • Ability and desire to work in a vigorous, fast-paced environment, and balance multiple priorities under demanding timelines, while remaining detail oriented
  • A proactive attitude and drive to deliver value in a team of highly motivated investment professionals
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Desire and ability to travel and work internationally
