We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Environmental Planner to lead and manage environmental planning components of complex transit and transportation infrastructure projects across Ontario. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in Class Environmental Assessments (EA) under MTO and IO frameworks, and a strong understanding of provincial and municipal EA processes including the Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP).

Key Responsibilities

Lead environmental planning and assessment activities for transit and transportation infrastructure projects.

Manage and coordinate Class EA processes including

  • MTO Class EA for Provincial Transportation Facilities
  • Municipal Class EA (MEA)
  • TPAP under Ontario Regulation 231/08
  • Liaise with MTO, IO, municipalities, Indigenous communities, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee preparation of EA documentation, technical studies, and regulatory submissions.
  • Provide strategic advice on environmental permitting, mitigation measures, and compliance.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff, fostering technical growth and leadership.
  • Support public consultation and engagement strategies.
  • Ensure projects meet environmental legislative and policy requirements.
  • Contribute to business development, proposal writing, and client relationship management.
  • Represent Jacobs at industry events and conferences


Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental planning, Environmental Science, Geography, or related field
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental planning, with a focus on transit and transportation projects
  • Proven experience with MTO and IO Class EA processes and TPAP
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario’s environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and managing consultant deliverables


Preferred Assets

  • Experience with Indigenous engagement and consultation
  • Familiarity with built heritage and cultural heritage landscape assessments
  • Membership in a professional planning or environmental organization (e.g., OPPI, RPP, CEP)


Posted Salary Range Minimum

107,000.00

Posted Salary Range Upper

161,810.00

The base salary range for this position is $107,000.00 to $161,810.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
