Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to other.

The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

Accountabilities

Christmas Toys & Hampers:

  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for Community Services programs and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
  • Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre.
  • Assist with sorting toy donations.
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.

Christmas Kettle Campaign

Perform other related duties as required.

  • Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to staff and/or volunteer’s arrival
  • Assist in ensuring all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Assist with the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations; may deliver and pick up kettles in an emergency situation.
  • Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.

Working Conditions

  • This is a temporary position based on 20hrs per week for 4 weeks (October 6-Nov 8), increasing to 30 hours per week for a period of 7 weeks (Nov 10- December 24).
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner.
  • Local travel may be associated with this position using the program vehicle.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed High School or equivalent
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and provide current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Experience

  • A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
  • Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs

  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
