As Director, Government Relations you will lead the strategy, planning and execution focusing on government relations in Alberta. You will engage with and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders including executive leaders, government, trade associations, civil society and academics. Your energy, drive and resilience will get the job done and create a better future for Alberta and Canada.
What you’ll do
- Develop and execute Alberta government relations strategy
- Undertake a wide variety of creative tactics to deliver on TELUS’ priorities
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with political leaders, academics, civil society groups, trade associations, public servants and other stakeholders
- Support TELUS public sector sales team and federal government relations
- Support Indigenous reconciliation efforts
- Lead the creation of reports, submissions, messages and collateral materials
- Lead and train TELUS team members to support advocacy efforts
- Report on progress to executives
- Guide and support executives in developing their relationships with key government officials
- Partner with public sector entities at all levels of government to advance Alberta’s innovation economy and connectivity, support public sector sales, and strengthen federally-focused advocacy with Alberta stakeholders
- Oversee TELUS’ Alberta lobbyist registration and ensure full compliance with all rules and regulations guiding engagement with the Alberta government
Qualifications
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field
- Experienced government relations professional with a deep understanding of political processes, government decision-making, and policy development
- Robust knowledge of Alberta’s political and bureaucratic space, with a proven track record of successfully influencing policy outcomes and building consensus among diverse stakeholders
- A data-driven approach to public policy advocacy and campaigning
- A talent for bringing people together and harnessing the collective energy to get things done
- Extraordinary ability to craft clear communications, and bring forward insights and recommendations to all levels of stakeholders
Great-to-haves
- Strong understanding of the telecommunications industry, regulatory environment, and digital infrastructure policy
- Experience in large matrix-style organizations
- Bilingual considered an asset
Salary Range: $128,000-$192,000 Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan: 30%
Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits, which may vary per job function, such as:
