The Team
Scotiabank’s Cards Engineering team is responsible for building and supporting best-in-class end to end Cards solutions for Scotiabank’s financial products & services. The engineering team provides Backend and API solutions and capabilities that enable great customer experiences fulfilling their banking needs.
The Director of Cards Engineering leads the strategic delivery and operational support of the Bank’s card technology platforms, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives, regulatory mandates, and enterprise architecture standards. This role is accountable for defining roadmap and championing engineering best practices that drive innovation, resilience, and scalability across the card’s ecosystem. The Director will empower a cross-functional technology team to deliver cutting-edge digital products and seamless customer experiences through agile methodologies, while cultivating a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Manage and mentor a high-performing team of Software Engineers, Technical Leads, and Engineering Managers.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning within the engineering organization.
- Build a high-performance environment, engineering culture and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, and develops talent.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, team development, and leadership practices.
- Lead end-to-end software development lifecycle (SDLC) for card systems, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of features and enhancements.
- Accountable for the design, development, deployment, and support of card processing systems.
- Ensure all card systems meet regulatory, compliance, and security standards.
- Collaborate with business and other technology partners to create roadmaps, plan and prioritize work.
- Accountable for the design, governance and operation of the intake process. Lead and govern agile delivery practices.
- Deliver ongoing SIP projects related to Cards.
- Establish, report, track and monitor KPIs for the delivery of the organization commitments.
- Accountable to manage the squads and the delivery of their commitments on time and budget.
- Manage department budget.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role managing large complex technology projects with significant technology and operational components.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to rapidly assess risks and issues.
- Excellent organization, planning, and time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple competing and complex initiatives.
- Strong leadership and relationship building skills.
- Enthusiastic and passionate about customer experiences, innovation and delivering software.
- Expert knowledge of software development and design principles for highly scalable, enterprise level technology stacks.
- Expert knowledge in agile principles and in a range of modern technologies.
- Flexibility to adapt to new and evolving environments and a demonstrated willingness and aptitude for picking new things up quickly.
- Proven ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to semi-technical audiences.
- Curious mindset, love for innovation and foster collaboration.
- Love to help others thrive and work best in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
