Position Scope
Reporting to the Senior Systems Engineer, Advanced Automation and Data Integration, the selected candidate will collaborate with the Process Systems Engineering team applying a range of tools and techniques to deliver process modelling, data analytics, advanced automation, and process intelligence solutions. The primary objective is to contribute to projects that enhance CE’s technologies and improve operations for the broader CE team.

Position Scope

The primary objective is to contribute to projects that enhance CE’s technologies and improve operations for the broader CE team.
- This position is an 8 month or longer co-op term. Expected start is January 2026.
- This position is on-site and based in Squamish, BC.
- The work schedule follows a M-F, 40hrs/week schedule.
- Relocation support is provided.
- This position pays $22-26/hour.
- Expected start date is January 2026.
- Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
- Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace.
- Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a material property database using high-throughput modeling and/or existing data sources
- Improve and automate data extraction pipelines to enhance efficiency and reliability
- Ensure data quality and consistency across large datasets
- Contribute to the development of recommendation systems for AI-guided experiments
- Support efforts to reduce experimental costs and improve model accuracy through data-driven approaches
- Optimize active learning workflows, including techniques such as Bayesian optimization
- Collaborate with team members to refine data processing automation and integrate feedback into iterative improvements
Education and Knowledge:
- 3rd year undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering, with coursework or experience in data analytics, statistics, machine learning, optimization, or computational modeling.
- Hands-on experience in Python programming, preferably applying it to data analytics and machine learning tasks
- Solid understanding of commonly used data analytics, statistical methods and machine learning including their purposes and applications
- Familiarity with widely used machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn
- Knowledge of the scientific Python ecosystem (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Seaborn)
- Exposure to advanced machine learning topics such as Active Learning (AL), Autoencoders, or Generative models
- Familiarity or experience with SQL and Git
- Experience with commercial process simulation software such as Aspen Plus
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and share ideas.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn, especially in fast-paced or evolving technical environments.
- Adaptability and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and contribute to creative solutions.
- Team-oriented attitude, with a focus on collaboration, respect, and mutual support.
- Time management and organizational skills, to balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.
- Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in both technical and non-technical work.
