Electrical Engineer (Hardware Design)

Design the future. Build technology that matters.

At Tangent Design Engineering, we bring bold ideas to life. Our team thrives on solving complex problems with elegant engineering - from robotics to energy systems to advanced communications. We’re collaborative, curious, and relentless about quality.

We’re looking for an Electrical Engineer who can design, simulate, and deliver hardware that performs in the real world. This role is hands-on, cross-disciplinary, and central to how we deliver value to our clients.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design and development of electrical hardware using Altium, Capital X Panel Designer, draw.io, and other similar software.
  • Apply expertise in high-speed, RF, and mixed-signal design to real-world challenges.
  • Use analog circuit simulation tools (LTSpice, Tina-TI, or similar) to validate designs.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical and software teams to integrate solutions.
  • Ensure designs are documented, tested, and ready for certification and production.

What We Expect to See on Your Resume

  • PCBA Design Expertise – Proficiency with Altium or equivalent software, with demonstrated experience taking designs from concept through to production.
  • High-Speed / RF / Mixed-Signal Design – Hands-on design experience in one or more of these areas, with examples of how your work has contributed to reliable, high-performance systems.
  • Analog Circuit Simulation – Strong working knowledge of Spice-based tools (LTSpice, Tina-TI, or similar) used to model, test, and refine designs before fabrication.
  • Professional Experience – At least 3 years of dedicated work in electrical hardware design, showing increasing scope and responsibility.
  • Credentials – Registered as a P.Eng. or actively progressing through the application process, demonstrating a commitment to professional standards.
  • Project Delivery – Evidence on your resume of designs that were successfully built, tested, and certified, not just theoretical or academic work.
  • Clear Communication in Practice – A history of writing reports, documenting designs, or presenting technical results in a way that made your work accessible to broader teams.

What We Will Test for in the Interview

  • Communication – Can you explain complex technical concepts in plain language to colleagues, clients, or leadership? We’ll look for clarity, brevity, and the ability to tailor your message.
  • Accountability – Do you own your work fully? We’ll test for your ability to follow through without being chased, manage priorities under ambiguity, flag issues early, and finish strong.
  • Teamwork – Do you make others better? We’ll look for humility, willingness to share knowledge, openness to feedback, and a track record of improving processes, workspaces, or mentoring others.
  • Client Success Orientation – Do you care beyond the deliverable? We’ll test whether you can build trust, proactively serve clients, educate them about risks and options, and manage relationships for the long term.
  • Innovation – Are you curious and bold in your thinking? We’ll explore how you challenge assumptions, learn quickly from failure, share ideas openly, and apply creative thinking to deliver new value.

Why Work With Us

  • Salary: $90,000–$125,000 (as long as P.Eng has been achieved)
  • Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (with some work from home flexibility)
  • Paid Time Off: 4 weeks (to be used in any way you want)
  • Benefits: Health & Dental, Life and Disability Insurance
  • Culture: A team that values ingenuity, collaboration, and doing work that makes an impact.
