The Cyber Solutions Architect plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the organization’s cybersecurity strategy across the enterprise. In this role, you will lead architectural decisions and design for the Cybersecurity Solutions Team, ensuring secure, scalable, and data-driven platforms, applications, and products.
You will work closely with the Cybersecurity team, IT, and business stakeholders to enhance enterprise security capabilities, with a strong focus on data security, governance, and compliance with internal standards and external regulations such as SOX. Your expertise in Azure, AWS, cloud infrastructure, AI, Identity & Access Management, and networking will be essential in integrating advanced technologies and best practices.
Success in this position requires a comprehensive understanding of the current information security environment, the ability to proactively identify gaps and emerging risks, and strong skills in risk management and change management. You will oversee the development and governance of cybersecurity standards, policies, and procedures, and communicate complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language.
As a leader and mentor, you will also develop and deliver impactful presentations, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices across the organization. Your ability to collaborate, influence, and engage with senior leaders, technical teams, and regulatory bodies will be key to driving continuous improvement in the organization’s cybersecurity posture.
Minimum Requirements:
Suncor's operations include oil sands development, production and upgrading; offshore oil and gas; petroleum refining in Canada and the U.S.; and the company's Petro-Canada retail and wholesale distribution networks (including Canada's Electric Highway, a coast-to-coast network of fast-charging electric vehicle stations).

Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, information technology or any business relevant Architecture experience
- Expert-level knowledge and experience in cybersecurity, including Azure, AWS, cloud infrastructure, virtual networking design, Identity & Access Management (IAM), data security, and artificial intelligence (AI).
- Experience with risk modeling and evaluating common and specific risks for an enterprise and the ability to articulate those risks across a variety of audience groups and leadership levels of the organization
- Knowledge and experience with cybersecurity controls; Mitre Att&ck and NIST cybersecurity frameworks; cybersecurity risk assessment and management
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences and work effectively across diverse teams.
- Proficiency in using ArchiMate modelling to design and communicate ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- University degree or related post-secondary diploma/certificate or equivalent industry experience with preference given to certifications such as TOGAF; CISSP; CISM
- Lead the architectural design and direction of cybersecurity solutions, ensuring alignment with Enterprise Architecture, cybersecurity principles, and the NIST Framework.
- Ensure all designs and enhancements adhere to internal standards, guidelines, and, where applicable, external regulatory requirements such as SOX and NERC-CIP.
- Drive continuous improvement in cybersecurity by integrating advanced technologies and optimized processes across the organization.
- Lead the governance, development, and lifecycle management of cybersecurity standards, policies, and procedures, with a strong focus on effective change management.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate cybersecurity risks, implementing appropriate risk controls to protect organizational data, assets, and information.
- Collaborate and engage with senior leaders, technical teams, business partners, and regulatory bodies to support enterprise-wide cybersecurity initiatives.
- Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, non-technical language and mentor team members in architectural and solution design best practices.
- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
- Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based on years of experience and scope of work
