Youth Counsellor (Casual)

Hourly Rate of Pay - $41.56

On-call as needed basis working up to 35 hours per week once term is completed


The Board is currently seeking an energetic, compassionate, and student-focused Casual Youth Counsellor.

The successful applicant to this position will provide services to students in elementary schools, secondary schools, or alternative programs. The successful applicant will work cooperatively with a team of school and system-based professionals in an educational environment dedicated to providing the highest standards of service.

The functions of this position could include (but are not limited to):

  • Working collaboratively with administrators, attendance counsellors, social workers, school staff, students, families, and select community partners
  • Directly supporting classrooms by providing evidence-based social-emotional learning programming
  • Facilitating small group or one-on-one targeted skill-building with students
  • Providing attendance re-engagement support for students and families
  • Supervising school initiatives related to student engagement in mental health and well-being
  • Maintaining appropriate records
  • Tracking and maintaining data associated with working with students
  • Carrying out other professional duties as assigned


Skills, Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must hold a college diploma (CAAT) in the Community Services field (Child and Youth Care is preferred) or education deemed equivalent by the DSBN
  • Membership with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC) is considered an asset.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License with the ability to travel to schools within the DSBN
  • Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, possesses strong organizational and time management skills
  • Is an effective communicator (both written and verbal)
  • demonstrated experience successfully supporting children and youth who have social or emotional difficulties
