Unit Summary
HR Support Services is made up of a team of HR professionals and innovators who contribute to the achievement of Hamilton Health Sciences’ (HHS) operational and strategic priorities. HR Support Services is organized by streams (HR Payroll, HR Reporting, Compensation & Benefits, and HR & Payroll Solutions) to provide a wide range of HR services and programs for the HHS community. This team is part of the broader Human Resources Portfolio that includes Health Safety and Wellness, HR Operations, Employee & Labour Relations, Talent, Organizational Development and Human Rights & Diversity. The HR Support Services model and overall vision emphasizes a client focus, collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior HR Payroll Specialist, the HR Payroll Analyst runs end–to-end processing of the bi-weekly and off cycle pay runs for over 15,000 employees at Hamilton Health Sciences. This includes Oracle HCM Cloud processing, complex data validation and analysis, and troubleshooting as needed. The incumbent will act as a key resource for payroll related inquiries/escalations, ensuring that payroll policies, procedures, and established best practices are applied to resolve issues in a timely and accurate manner. As a member of the HR Support Services team, the HR Payroll Analyst will work closely with the HR Operations team to ensure accurate processing of HR and pay related activities.
The incumbent will be responsible for various projects including process improvements and system changes including end to end testing. The role is integral as part of the overall HR Payroll team that is client oriented, accuracy driven and best practice focused in the work they perform. The ideal candidate is currently working in a similar role with considerable payroll knowledge and experience ideally with an Oracle payroll product. Intermediate working knowledge of excel is required. Experience processing payroll for a large size employer is required and public sector experience in unionized environment is preferred. The ideal candidate has exposure to working within a HR Shared Services model and possesses highly developed interpersonal, client services, and leadership abilities.
Schedule Work Hours
Days, Monday to Friday with willingness to be flexible with working hours to suit operational requirements. This position may be eligible for a hybrid remote work arrangement, in accordance with HHS’ Remote Work Policy. 37.5 hours per week.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate Degree (Accounting, Business, or other relevant).
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification considered an asset.
- 2-3 years’ full cycle payroll processing experience in a complex union and non-union environment. Experience in human resources operations (compensation, pension, benefits, etc.)
- 2-3 years’ experience in HR/Payroll related software (PeopleSoft, Oracle Cloud, etc.)
- 2-3 years’ experience working in a Shared Services model.
- Thorough knowledge of payroll related legislation, theory, processes, reporting.
- Strong understanding of payroll and human resources operations (benefits, compensation, and pensions).
- Legislative knowledge relevant to payroll including but not limited to: Employment Standards Act, Employment Insurance Act, Canada Pension Plan Act, Income Tax Act, etc.
- Strong orientation to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
- Proven ability to multi-task with competing priorities to ensure responsibilities are fulfilled, often within tight timelines
Proficiency in both Official Languages would be an asset.
