We are currently hiring a Temporary Lab Technician to join the team at our Goderich Plant facility in Goderich, Ontario.
Compass Minerals’ Goderich Plant has operated since 1867, after an unsuccessful search for oil uncovered a vast bed of rock salt under Goderich. Using mechanical evaporation, the plant produces high-purity, fine- and coarse-grained salt products in packages and in bulk for commercial, agricultural and industrial applications. The plant also packages rock salt from the mine that is used for deicing and water conditioning.
Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.
How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following
- Perform quality control tests on all samples received each day as per the Lab Tests document.
- Perform daily and weekly testing on well water and plant effluent and environmental issues as required.
- Inform the QA Supervisor in a timely manner when lab supplies and chemicals are required.
- Ensure all food and animal grade products are meeting specification prior to release.
- Enter all data generated from testing and send reports as required.
- Prepare all chemical solutions as required.
- Calibrate instruments as required.
- Inform Warehouse Supervisor(s) when products do not meet specification and ensure re-samples are obtained, retested, and results communicated to the Supervisor.
- Assist with document review and procedure writing for Plant HACCP Plan.
- Ensure compliance to food safety regulations.
- Act as back-up to the QA Supervisor on holidays.
- Perform general housekeeping duties in the laboratory.
- In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned by your supervisor as dictated by business necessity.
What should you bring to the role?
- Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree (Chemistry or Food Safety) or equivalent education and experience *College Diploma in Chemistry or Food Safety
- 2 – 4 years of lab experience, or food manufacturing and/or agricultural setting is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of HACCP, BRCS, GFSI, ISO 2000, FSMA, and SFCR Standards is considered an asset.
- Intermediate to advance understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Visio)

What is the work schedule?
- This is a Monday-Friday role 40-hour work week
