Description of Assignment
Secwépemc Language and Culture - Grades K-7 at various elementary schools within Williams Lake.
This position will replace a current temporary vacancy. The current FTE of this assignment is 60% (3 days per week) but could be more or less, depending on the incumbent. The successful applicant will be eligible for on-call vacancies and other opportunities as they arise.
Salary
The salary of this assignment is based on our current salary grid. The current salary is $59, 711.00 per annum, paid over 10 months and prorated to the FTE of the assignment.
Special Qualifications Required
- Preference will be given to applicants with a Professional Teaching Certificate. Applicants who hold (or are eligible to hold) a Secwépemc Language Certificate may also be considered. Assistance will be provided to applicants applying for their Language Certificate with the Teacher Regulation Branch.
- Oral and written fluency in Secwépemc Language
- Be current with traditional activities and culture
- Have successful experience working in a classroom
- Be able to produce, use lesson plans and overviews and organize resources for class
- Be able to assess, evaluate and give feedback to students and parents on their work; this will include report cards
- Expected to work with a school team to further students' educational goals
- Expected to continue learning by attending language/culture courses and workshops and other professional development activities

We commit to supporting our new teachers (those with 0-2 years of experience) by facilitating a structured mentorship program. Teachers who desire mentorship but who have more than 2 years experience will qualify for mentorship based on the provisions within our collective agreement.
We also believe in providing Professional Development beyond the provisions of our collective agreement. The District has engaged in long term contracts with several (up to 6) educational leaders. Teachers can expect to see the educational leaders in our District, up to 2 days prior to a Professional Development Day, offering hands on coaching both in the classroom and in sessions (evening or during the Professional Development Day).
Our local teachers' union, the Cariboo Chilcotin Teachers' Association, also boasts strong collective agreement language regarding Professional Development as well as financial support for their members to engage in opportunities.
Relocation allowance may be offered with this position.
