The Opportunity:

The Manager, Wellbeing and Safety will be passionate about promoting physical, psychological and emotional health while ensuring the Hospital meets all regulatory compliance. The successful applicant will oversee Emergency Preparedness, Occupational Health, Safety and Security. Overseeing a team of two direct reports, and working in close collaboration with IPAC, leadership, and external partners. Importantly this role will prioritize creating a supportive space and programs for the team of CGMH. The Manager will work closely with the Joint Health and Safety Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, IPAC Committee and the Wellness Working Group to deliver on strengthening CGMH’s culture.


Education and Experience:

  • Membership in good standing with a regulated health professional college in the province of Ontario or, post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Abilities Management, Security, Emergency Preparedness or a related field
  • 3 years’ leadership experience, with a preference for experience in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on organizational wide initiatives resulting in improvement in safety and wellbeing
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience and results in more than one of Wellness, Abilities Management, Security, Safety and Emergency Preparedness

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in establishing a supportive team as well as engagement throughout an organization
  • Through knowledge of legislation and standards [including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation 67/93, Regulation 213/91, Regulation 474/07, National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety (CSA-Z1003-13), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act]
  • Knowledge of best practices in abilities management
  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of best practice implementation of wellness initiatives
  • Policy development and implementation based on best practice and legislative standards
  • Auditing and risk assessment ability
  • Team management and coaching
  • Influence, communication skills, conflict-resolution and conflict descalation
  • Decision-making in complex, high-pressure environments
  • Program planning, evaluation, and change management


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive wellbeing strategy in partnership with the Vice President People & Culture through stakeholder engagement
  • Provide oversight and guidance to the Abilities Management program including attendance awareness programs, early and safe return to work, WSIB case management and proactive clinics. Support each other in this process by providing empathetic, inclusive and supportive leadership
  • Oversight of Security department including scheduling, performance management and initiatives as well as integration of security into safety prevention
  • Enhance safety culture by promoting a collaborative environment that ensures safe, compliant, and sustainable workplace practices including monitoring and responding to safety risks, a commitment to workplace violence prevention and reduction while encouraging and promoting a strong culture
  • Support CGMH in emergency situations by ensuring education, confidence and preparedness to respond to unexpected situations
  • Demonstrate an approach of curiosity and collaboration in approach within CGMH as well as with union partners, external partners such as police, fire, Ministry of Labour
  • Enhance compliance and innovation by developing and refining policies, processes, and training to meet regulatory requirements and best practices.

Hours of Work: Days, participates in Leadership On-Call rotation following three months of employment. Compensation for on-call includes lieu days.

Wage: $60.35 - $71.58 per hour [$117,689.81 - $139,778.57, per annum]
