Purpose:

Reporting to the Chief Actuary Bermuda, this position is responsible for supporting Actuarial leadership in executing a range of reinsurance transactions and balance sheet initiatives. The Actuarial department is a c. 40-strong team of reinsurance professionals involved in all technical aspects of reinsurance transactions across both new business pricing/underwriting/execution and in-force management/valuation. The department is highly visible in the wider Apollo/Athene organization and plays a key role in the Apollo/Athene APAC expansion strategy.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide executional support across all aspects of a transaction lifecycle, including support of due diligence, structuring, and onboarding.
  • Act as a key contributor in managing deal workflows including mapping out next steps, coordinating cross-functional input, and helping ensure timely progress toward transaction milestones.
  • Identify for actuarial leadership any task dependencies that will impact transaction workflow and milestone completion.
  • Develop clear, concise presentation materials for senior leadership, highlighting transaction summaries, structure diagrams, governance requirements, and execution progress to be used in educating stakeholders and facilitating internal decision making and approvals.
  • Co-ordinate transaction governance activities, including scheduling key approval meetings, preparing committee materials, and ensuring adherence to internal protocols and regulatory expectations.
  • Track capital market and insurance industry activities and trends and monitor global developments in insurance regulatory, accounting, and capital standards.
  • Collaborate with global teams on all aspects of transaction execution and develop relationships with other parts of the organization including corporate development, finance and legal.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance or related field required with an MBA considered an asset
  • 5+ years’ relevant work experience or equivalent education and financial/life (re)insurance experience
  • Understanding of fixed income principles and macro markets
  • Experience with Bermuda EBS, Solvency II, Canadian IFRS, CALM or other similar solvency regimes is a plus
  • Progress towards a recognized financial certification (e.g., FSA, ASA or CFA) is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage several projects
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, intellectual curiosity, and strong initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to complete tasks thoroughly and on time, including under time pressures and outside normal working hours
  • Ability to view “big picture”, understand broad corporate impacts, and focus on company objectives
